Some Issues and Ideas

First of all, thanks for the recent updates @Ryan Cush ! I really appreciate your efforts!

I definitely do like the clone brush, the “Match tone” and the “Preview in Brush” features. Not yet sure about the Line tool and its practical applications, but I guess it’s meant to be used to paint larger areas without having to move the mouse around wildly like a paint brush.

A few issues I noticed while testing the latest changes/additions

1)

Dragging a folder on MacOS from Finder to the Folders pane in Macro Studio is still not working for me. The folder doesn’t show up in the Folders pane, not even after refreshing. I updated the original Request a few days ago and also uploaded a screen recording showing the process.

2)

When in Retouch mode, Shift + Mouse wheel isn’t working for me, when the mouse cursor is inside the retouch window. I have to use the curser keys instead, which is a bit inconvenient.

The same applies for the LIBRARY screen. While in the image window, using the mouse wheel zooms the image. When pressing the Shift key, nothing happens anymore, no zooming, no skipping between the thumbnails in the film strip pane.

3)

Painting with the retouch brush is very laggy and jumpy. Seems like the brush size has some impact, but the other brush properties haven’t. The interesting thing is that the clone brush is working very smoothly and fluently.

4)

On a German keyboard the [], {} and \ aren’t easily usable without breaking your fingers. So I re-mapped “Brush size down” to “Shift+A” and “Brush size up” to “Shift+S”. While “Shift+A” is working, “Shift+S” isn’t. As it seems, it’s because the “S” is used for “Show source frame (hold). And that’s what actually happens, the “Shift” seems to be ignored.

Improvement Ideas

A)

While Brush size can be changed with Cmd+Scroll, it would be nice to have a similar gesture for changing the Feather, like Shift+Cmd+Scroll. Also, changing the Strength could be mapped to Ctrl+Cmd+Scroll.

B)

I like the clone brush! When setting the source I’d like to see the mouse cursor change its shape immediately (like it’s done in Photoshop for example). Like, Pressing Option immediately changes to crosshair as long as the Option key is pressed.

C)

Another idea for the clone brush would be to give it the same properties as the retouch brush, i.e. Strength, Feather. Aren’t the clone and retouch brushes very similar, except for the clone source?

D)

Shouldn’t here be a keyboard shortcut for Spot Correct?

E)

In the Keyboard Shortcuts editor the parameters for “Brush edge” should be re-named to “Feather” or vice versa, just to be sure that both refer to the same property.

F)

Personally, when working in retouch mode, I would like to have some kind of Zerene-Compatibility mode regarding gestures and keyboard shortcuts.

  • Mouse wheel without modifier keys changes the brush size

  • Space + Mouse wheel zooms the image

  • Space + Left Click for dragging/panning

My Hardware

  • MacBook M4 Pro with 48G RAM.

  • Logitech MX Master 3 Mouse with Logi Options+ App installed

  • Logitech MX Keys Mini for Mac Keyboard with German layout (which actually is an issue with some default key bindings, like [] (Option 5, Option 6), {} (Option+8, Option+9) ,\ (Option+Shift+7). Anyway, I can re-map them now 🙂

  • Scratch folder is currently set to the very fast internal 1G SSD
